Cycling Sessions

Snibston Colliery Park  – Car park   

11th, 12th and 14th July  [11am – 1pm]   FREE

Bring your own balance bikes and pedal bikes with safety helmets too and get some coaching on a mini-circuit.  Practice your skills and gain confidence with some helpful tips before heading out into the main park!  Suitable for younger children up to 12 years. No need to book. Please note: Safety helmets must be worn if taking part in this activity. 

 

Mega Walk

Coalville

12th – 17th July  [all day – start any time]  FREE

For this self-guided tour you’ll explore all that Coalville has to offer as you make your way across the town, taking in all of the hidden gems including theatres, parks, nature reserves, and the newly revamped Snibston Colliery Park. Download your map or collect one from the Colliery Café to start your adventure!

 

Kids Pedal Go-Karts

Get active as you go go go round our small go-kart course! Challenge your friends and family to see who will be the ultimate champion for the day. Suitable for age 4 years and older.   No need to book.

 

Survival Skills – FULLY BOOKED

Join our Snibston rangers to learn basic survival skills. Out in the country park we will show you how to build an amazing den and the skills you would need to survive in the wild. Suitable for 6- 12 year olds but on booking, you will need to book tickets for accompanying adults. Children must be accompanied at all times.  Meet outside the Colliery Cafe.

Building Coalville and the Museum of Grot!

CAN COALVILLE? Coalville CAN …. Come and get creative with the Coalville C.A.N volunteers who will be on hand to help you get up to date with the latest projects from cardboard creations to having your say – there’s a role for everyone to play a part in. Also featuring – the Museum of Grot! Find out more about the Grot that’s thrown out, the Grot that has been collected and the creative use that has been made of Grot – why not bring your own masterpiece! Brought together with the help of North Leicestershire Wombles!  Suitable for all ages. No need to book.

Join professional musicians from Leicester-Shire Schools Music Service’s, to get hands-on experience with DJ decks so you’ll be turning tables like your favourite Scratch DJ. In your 20 minute workshop you’ll learn about pulse and rhythm as you explore this diverse and contemporary genre of music. Suitable for 7 – 18 year olds.

Music Recording Session

Record your own hip hop, grime or soul track in these exclusive sessions with music producer Seven AND record a music video for it, with your own backing dancers! WOW!!!!!  This is an amazing opportunity thanks to Arts Council England to work with Nottingham based music producer, rapper, lyricist and beatboxer Seven.
Seven has worked with some amazing hip hop, drum and bass and grime artists. In these two sessions you will choose your beat, write your lyrics and record the song. Then watch as the backing dancers bring it to life in your own music video!  Places are limited. *You must book both sessions (one session on each date). A Miner’s Story – FULLY BOOKED

17th July  [2 – 3pm]    FREE

A miner’s work underground was dangerous, hard but full of camaraderie. A former miner from Snibston Colliery, who also worked at Whitwick and Bagworth collieries, will take you on a tour of Snibston Colliery Park mine simulation display and show you the machines that were used to get the coal and stories of the miners’ who work on them. Duration 1 hour approx. Meet outside the Colliery Cafe.

Snibston Collieries and Colony: a trip through time

Snibston Colliery Park

18th July  [12 – 1pm and 2 – 3pm]  FREE

A guided walk looking at the history and heritage of George Stephenson’s Snibston Collieries and what remains of Stephenson’s ‘New Snibston’ colony, which became part of Coalville. The walk will start at the Colliery Café and walk around Snibston No. 2 Colliery (Snibston Colliery Park) to Oliver’s Crossing and back to the Colliery Park along Ashby Road to see the remains of the colony.   Duration 1 hour approx.  Meet outside the Colliery Cafe.
